It was indeed a day of joy to Maryam when her final result was out and it was reading a gpa of 4.93.
Miss Maryam Abbas Lawal is one of the many success stories unravelled at the combined 19th, 20th, 21st and 22nd convocation of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi held recently.
Maryam who was 25 and a graduate of computer science beamed with smiles as she responded to endless congratulatory greetings on the convocation ground graduated with First Class to the joy of her family, friends and well wishers.
Speaking with Education Review, Lawal said it was not easy because while she enjoyed the support of her family who believed in her, it was not so with some of her friends and classmates in the university who saw her as a bookworm and disliked her because she hardly socialised.
“That never bothered me. I was focused and determined to come out among the best,” she said. “I have always nursed the dream to make First Class since my secondary school days in Kaduna. When I came to the university, right from my first year, I started praying and working hard for it Maryam concluded.
